The Columbian Exchange

As you learned from the events of 1830, new settlers had an enormous impact on the lives of Native Americans. In fact, newcomers have been changing the lives of Native Americans since the day Columbus landed. Let's take a trip back to the 15th century and learn about the Columbian Exchange. Use Inspiration or Comic Life to make a graphic organizer that includes video, text and graphics showing the items that moved from the New World to the Old & visa versa. Save your file as .pdf and link it to your post.

Eurocentrism & Ethnocentrism

Use Merriam-Webster Online Dictionary to look up the definitions of "eurocentrism" and "enthocentrism." Post at least three paragraphs applying these words to your knowledge of Indian Removal, Japanese Interment and the Aborigines.

Original peoples a world away

North American Natives weren't the only original peoples displaced by Europeans. Read the handout on the brief history of the Aboriginals. Compare the plight of the Aboriginals of Australia to that of the Natives peoples of North America. Use the handouts, the textbook and your prior knowledge to supplement your writing. Post at least 2 paragraphs.

100 years later...

Read the handouts on the Japanese Internment during World War II. Compare and contrast Japanese Internment of the 1940s to Indian Removal of the 1830s. Post four paragraphs (introduction, similarities, differences & conclusion) discussing your findings.

Genocide?

Visit Merriam-Webster Online Dictionary and look up "genocide." After reading the definition, decide whether the Indian Removal of the 1830s could be categorized as genocide or not. Post at least one paragraph that includes the definition of genocide (don't forget to give credit to Merriam-Webster!) and reasons to back up your conclusion.
